Music to Moss To

Do you even grow slowly though bro?

Many apologies for the days-late post, I know I usually do Fridays but the edition I worked on last week was chaotic even by my standards and I’m gonna let it clam bake for awhile longer or get rid of it. In the meantime, I decided to push up the playlist I’ve been working on for the last few weeks or so and do something else this Friday. So, consider this a payment against last week’s debt and I’ve included a new song or two on here to account for the accumulated interest.

I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned this already, apologies if so, but a few months ago I was at dinner with someone who spent the last two years studying moss. I’ll be honest, I’ve thought very little about moss over the course of my life but the way they explained it to me made me want to turn into it and hillock a small patch of dark forest floor until Time on Earth reaches its natural conclusion. I guess that makes it seem like I want to be eaten alive by everything I love, and I suppose to some extent that’s true. It’s difficult to witness the depth of beauty our world or lives sometimes contain and not hope it somehow devours you, and while I don’t think too often about death these days my hope is that it’s something close to that.

Since I haven’t found a way to become moss yet I decided to make a playlist that reminded me of it instead. I don’t know what non-vascular plants say to each other or what it’s like to be them, but the vibe kept landing somewhere between liminal spaces reverb and Alice Coltrane so I did my best to stitch those things together. Hope you enjoy, and I hope you’re having an awesome week so far.
